Who's Behind DonateLand

DonateLand is the real-estate donation program of Veterans Opportunity Program Inc. — a registered 501(c)(3) you can verify in two minutes. Here's who we are and where donated land actually goes.

The nonprofit

Veterans Opportunity Program Inc. was founded in 2020 to provide free, practical resources for U.S. veterans: plain-English VA benefits guidance, job training pathways, housing assistance, and transition support for service members returning to civilian life. The work is unglamorous on purpose — the gap veterans most often describe isn’t inspiration, it’s logistics: how to claim earned benefits, land a first civilian job, and keep stable housing while doing it.

Programs cost money, and small nonprofits live or die on funding diversity. That’s where DonateLand comes in.

Why land donations

America is full of parcels stuck in limbo — land that costs its owners money every year but can’t realistically be sold. Meanwhile, nonprofits need funding that doesn’t depend on grant cycles. Land donation connects the two: the owner exits a burden and takes a legitimate tax deduction; the nonprofit converts an idle asset into program funding. Both sides of the transaction are better off, which is why the IRS has supported property donation with a well-defined deduction framework for decades.

What happens to donated property

One of three things, and we tell every donor which before they sign:

Verify us — please

You should never transfer property to an organization you haven’t checked. Veterans Opportunity Program Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3); our EIN is 47-3763471. Look us up in the IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search and visit the parent organization at veteransopportunityprogram.com. Donation receipts and Form 8283 signatures come from the registered entity, so your deduction stands on solid ground.

How we work with donors

Small team, direct answers, no call centers. Every inquiry gets a personal review and a response within one business day, every property gets a straight yes-or-no with reasons, and the process costs donors nothing. When donating isn’t your best move, we say so — our donate-vs-sell page was written to lose us the deals we should lose. The ones we win fund veterans. That trade works for everyone.

Professionals referring clients: the advisor page covers due-diligence documentation, Form 8283 turnaround, and how we work with your office directly.
